PopSockets Grip
A collapsible phone grip that sold 290 million units and nearly $200M a year - with zero venture capital.
A tiny 10-gram HDMI capture stick that lets any laptop become a monitor for a Switch or PlayStation, made by three console-loving friends.
GENKI ShadowCast is a thumb-sized HDMI-to-USB-C capture stick weighing about 10 grams. It takes a 4K HDMI feed from a Switch, PlayStation or Xbox and outputs 1080p60 video to any laptop via USB-C. No internet connection, TV or external power is needed. The companion Genki Arcade app auto-detects the device for low-latency play, capture and streaming. It is sold alongside GENKI's Covert Dock and other Switch accessories.
Human Things, the company behind GENKI, was founded in 2017 by three friends: Eddie, Chris and Andrew. Their first product, GENKI Audio, was the most-funded gaming hardware project on Kickstarter in 2018. The Covert Dock followed in 2019, again topping gaming hardware crowdfunding. In January 2021 the ShadowCast campaign closed with $1,931,677 pledged by 30,382 backers against a $30,000 goal. The team deliberately stayed indie and outside investors, describing itself as a small team of innovators. A later GENKI trilogy campaign in 2023 raised $1,437,389 from 12,237 backers. The products ship from China and are sold worldwide through the brand's own store.
